Dedication 101st Monument Bastogne

On September 26th 2008, a monument was dedicated to this famous division, in the presence of a Color Guard of the American 101st Airborne/Air assault Division and the US ambassador in Belgium.

The citizens of Bastogne ('Nuts city') had requested a separate monument from the city council earlier this year in order to express their special bond and gratitude toward the 'Screaming Eagles', whom they regard as their protectors and liberators.

The Eagle in the monument naturally represents the symbol of the 101st Division. Its wings reminds us of the peace dove. The upturned helmet symbolizes the blood which was shed during the siege of Bastogne.
The position and the expression of the Eagle's head represents determination and defense. The whole statue expresses the force and ternacity of the American Army.

The monument is placed on the entrance path between the Bastogne Memorial Center and the enormous Mardasson Monument.
