On the first full day, we traveled to the drop
zone area near Arnhem called Ginkelse Heide,
for the annual memorial dropping at drop zone Y for the British 1st Airborne
Division in
September 1944. The drop consisted, among others, of Active Duty Soldiers from
the 504th
Inf. From the US 82nd Airborne Division, Ft Bragg, North Carolina, U.S.A.

Thousands of people witnessed the beautiful sight
of those jumping from the planes of 1944 and
chutes opening as the fell onto the drop zone.
Next, we visited the museum at Groesbeek near
Nijmegen, viewing the many exhibits and memorials
to the fallen soldiers of Operation Market Garden.
